Regina lost her husband four years ago. Now she lives a solitary life–by choice. But her preferences are tossed aside when an unseen force drops her into a remote jungle. There, a small group of handsome, athletic men are waiting to show her that the woman who takes on their tribe has no chance to remain lonely…or unsatisfied.

But Regina wants more than what she’s offered. Niku takes her to bed for her first time in years, but is emotionally absent. Ax makes her writhe in pleasure, when he’s not tempting her to punch him in the face. Brannon is a sweet-talking, dreamboat, but can she trust him not to break her heart? Tennyson, Benji and Sebastian all adore her, but is their connection with her more than just the wild times they share between the sheets? With Rayne overflowing with animosity, and Viktor making her want to run and hide, figuring out which one of these men might just be the next great love in her life, is going to be a challenge.

The Wikomsette Excerpt © Emerald Lavere 2013

On Sunday—it must have been Sunday, because it was Wednesday when I’d arrived, and unless I was on a different planet…well, they sure looked like human men, acted like human men, felt like human men—anyway, it was Sunday to me, and all the men were resting. Some milled around the clearing talking and laughing, while others stayed in their quarters or swam in the nearby river.

Rayne was assigned to take me farther down the river where I could bathe privately.

Before I waded in, I asked, “What does it mean? Bisho un vu?”

Rayne sat cross-legged on the shore, absorbed in the black device he always carried. It was flat and about the size of a greeting card, and seemed to be a computer or tablet. He paused in his activity and answered in a solemn tone, eyes still on the device, “It means, ‘I offer myself to you.’”

“Oh.” That was surprising. “That’s rather romantic, considering I’m nothing more than a common prostitute here.”

“You are La Wikomsette!” Rayne snapped, frustration flashing in his icy eyes. “You are like a queen. They’ll do anything for you.” Then he finished bitterly, “There is no higher honor.”

“Why do you hate me?” I blurted. In my life back home, I didn’t open up to anyone, but here, so far from normal society, mincing words seemed an unnecessary formality.

“Don’t be stupid,” he replied with contempt. Concentrating on his device, he added, “Even if I did hate you, why would it matter? You have seven men here who would give their lives for you. If that’s not good enough, then you are a spoiled child and don’t deserve the love of even one of them.”

I seriously doubted love had much to do with anything. Mad horniness, maybe. I took off my clothes, and when Rayne didn’t show the slightest interest, I was stung by the insult. Maybe I was a spoiled child. But a wicked desire to harass him came over me.

Once in the water, I called, “I’ve figured it all out, you know.” That seemed to catch his attention, but he still didn’t look over or say anything. “You all are aliens, and I’m no longer on Earth.”

He burst out laughing. I smiled, pleased that I’d cracked his hard exterior. Also, it seemed I could cross that theory off my list. It was a lame one, anyway. The forest, or jungle, more like, was teeming with familiar wildlife.

“This doesn’t look like Earth?” he said, amused, gazing at the lush foliage around us. “Pity, we tried so hard to replicate your home planet to fool you.” He laughed at his own joke, then sighed. He shook his head and returned his attention to the device.

“Why did the men say that? About offering themselves?” I asked, splashing around in the pleasant water. “Not all of them did, though.” I wished Niku had said it. I would have liked him to, and Brannon was so affectionate, why hadn’t he?

After a moment, Rayne said, “In our…culture, a man says that only the first time he gives himself to someone.”

“But, it was the first time that each one…” I stopped midsentence, gasping as realization dawned. “Do you mean to tell me those men have never, ever been with a woman before? Ever?”

Rayne nodded.

After diving underwater to look for the soap I’d dropped, I came up and threw out my next theory. “Are you all from a monastery? Or some…weird cult or something?”

“Regina.” Even though he wasn’t looking in my direction, I could tell he was rolling his eyes. “Finish your bath. I don’t want to babysit you all day, and we have the Rest Day meal in a little while.” Despite the reprimand, his tone was lighter than before. Was this progress? Maybe he would learn to like me, after all.

“Your English is already flawless, and the others have learned so much. How is that even possible after so few days?” I asked while scrubbing my hair.

Rayne set the computer object down, stretched out his legs, and leaned back on his hands. “I’m not sure how to explain it well. But we have technology”—he waved a hand carelessly—“far more advanced than what you are used to—”

“How do you know what I’m used to?” Rayne had the annoying habit of talking down to me, and I was quickly growing tired of it.

“Are you done yet? Let’s head back,” he replied coolly.

“Almost. Sorry. Please tell me. Please?” I should really learn to keep my big mouth shut. He was annoyed again and waited a minute or two before answering.

“Well, the equipment is like a computer, a very, very small one. It houses thousands of languages. Ax identified yours the first day you came.” A dark look crossed his brow, and he went silent for several moments. Taking a deep breath, he went on. “I guess the most basic way to say it is we download the information into our brains, bits at a time. I already knew much of this language, so really I just had to fine-tune it.”

This was followed by several minutes of quiet while I climbed out of the water, wrapped up in a towel, and then just sat as I pondered the implications in his explanation. Rayne eventually glanced my way. “You’re androids?” I asked in a whisper.

“Oh good gosh, you are ridiculous! Get your clothes on. I’m starting back now, and you can keep up or get lost out here.” He stood and started walking while I pulled on my clothes as quickly as possible. I still almost lost him in the brush as I tripped over myself and tried to catch up.

She smiles, and it makes her less intimidating. She has very nice teeth. “My dear, calm yourself.” She sweeps across the room and sits in a dramatic pose on one of the couches. “I’m told your name is Ashling?”

“Yes, my lady.” I take a seat across from her. I feel self-conscious and horribly underdressed in my sweat suit.

“I feel already that you are different than the other girls I’ve mentored. I’m not exactly sure what it is…” She blinks rapidly at my outfit as if noticing it for the first time. “But you are quite lovely. The men will certainly be doing everything they can think of to win your favor and a place in your tribe.”

I blush. “Thank you. I hope I can…be what is required.”

“Darling, you will meet all expectations if you can do but two things: open your legs to let your husbands in and open them again to let children out. Anything beyond that is extra.”

Now I’m blushing so hard that Ambria laughs. “Oh my, you are sweet! I didn’t come here just to tell you that! I’m an experienced Wikomsette, darling, and I’ll give you much more advice in the ways of the life. If what I’ve said already has you turning so pink, you may need a brandy or two before hearing some of the rest. I’m afraid you’ll faint away!” She laughs again, and I smile back at her.

I also have the urge to lock myself away in my new, ugly bedroom, but there’s no getting out of this. Instead, I resign myself to remaining planted in the Penthouse living room and settle in for the afternoon with Ambria. Her lessons aren’t too bad at the start.

“I’ve been told you’ve led an especially sheltered life,” she says.

I nod.

“That you didn’t grow up in a traditional household and will need to have even the most basic things explained.” She raises an eyebrow and pauses as if hoping I’ll spill some beans. I respond only with my best wide-eyed innocent stare. She concedes and continues, “So bear with me if some of what I say seems remedial.”

Ambria goes on to explain that the Penthouse is referred to as the “Domain” in Wikomsette households, and gives a lot of advice about keeping peace in the home. Things like being clear with my expectations of the husbands and not depriving them.

“Unless they’ve upset you, of course, dear. Then feel free to teach the offending man a lesson! Oh, and also, I would be careful if you have any particular tastes, if you understand me. I once asked for two of my husbands to share my bed at the same time for a bit of extra excitement.” She shakes herhead. “The request was not well received by those two! But I got myself a couple of new husbands after that who weren’t so particular about whom they bedded, and oh my!” Ambria winks.

I find myself giggling even though the very idea sort of horrifies me. “Oh, no. I don’t think anything like that will be an issue.” My face is hot again.

“Well, you never know, dear. Once you get a taste for the cock…oh that reminds me, we should discuss tasting the cocks…” For the next hour or so, I sit, listen, choke on the water I’m drinking several times, and think my face will burst into flames of embarrassment many more times. At one point, Ambria is so caught up in her explanations of sex positions, she actually bunches up her gown and gets on all fours on the floor to explain the best way to prop yourself up while “taking it from behind” and adding self-stimulus with either your fingers or a pleasure device. “Those are a bit taboo, of course, as a woman shouldn’t be relieving herself when she has so many men that can barely get enough of her as it is. But they are perfectly acceptable accessories during sex play with a husband.”

After that display, she rolls onto her back with a huff. “Oh goodness. I can’t believe I’m on the floor. I can barely maneuver as it is in this dress, but I do love it so. Give me a hand up, will you, dear?”

With a bit of effort from both of us, Ambria manages to return to her seat on the sofa and asks for a beverage. I call down the stairway. A minute later, Jules brings us a tray of lemonade and explains the intercom, which is a circular crystal on the wall.

“These are throughout the home, my lady, and for now, you’ll have to wave a hand past one to activate it. Later today, we’ll program the system to respond to your voice.” He bows and returns to the lower level.

“A fine-looking youth, that one,” Ambria says before sipping her drink.

I merely smile, and ask, “Um. Are you… Do you still…?” I have to wonder if at her age she still romps around in the bedroom.

“Oh, gracious, dear! Of course! I’m all for it. Though, you know, I have slowed down, but believe me, so have my husbands! I still take all of them to my bed. The ones that are left, anyway. But often it’s just for the sweetness of having one of my men to sleep beside when neither of us is up for more.”

“What do you mean, the ones who are left? Don’t you take husbands for life?

Ambria nods and sighs. “Three of my darlings have passed on. I only have six left now. I suppose I could take on some younger ones. Those who have no chance of getting a younger Wikomsette of their own. But our household is quiet and content. I think it will be just us from here on out.”

“What about children? Did you have any?”

Ambria laughs so hard that tears sparkle in her eyes. “Oh, precious! Did I have children! Seventeen, dear. All boys. I suppose that’s one of the reasons I so enjoy counseling young women as they enter their positions. It’s the closest I ever get to a mother-daughter relationship.”

I barely hear the last bit because my mind is still reeling. Seventeen babies! I think I might be sick. “So…so, you were pregnant seventeen times?”

“Only sixteen. My last two boys are twins,” she says fondly. “Are you all right, dear? You look a bit green.”

Emerald Lavere grew up in rural Oregon. A country girl at heart, she now lives happily in Southern California with her three children, and only one husband (unlike her main Wikomsette characters). Formerly a dancer, singer, and actor, she still teaches dance on occasion, and sings often, and loudly, in her car.

I swooped down and kissed her, cutting her off. I knew what she’d seen, what they’d all seen. I didn’t want to talk about gymnastics now. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I like being able to control my body to do these things, enjoy the admiration I get. It just wasn’t my focus here in the club. My interest was only in the beautiful woman in front of me. I captured her mouth with mine, claiming her. She was delicious; sweet with a slight taste of martini. My tongue caressed hers, danced with hers. My pulse increased to dangerous levels as she moaned and matched me stroke for stroke. I retreated slightly before driving into her again, our mouths a mimicry of what I wanted to do to her with my body. Everything else fell away–the club, the people pressing into us from all sides, the noise, all of it. It was just me and her, doing positively indecent things, uncaring of who saw us. Unable to resist, I roughly groped her breast outside her shirt. She pulled back, her eyes dark, hooded. We both breathed heavily, and my head spun. I felt drunk off her pheromones. She took my hand and led me off the dance floor through the club’s exit.

***For Mature Audience 18 +***

I placed her glass on the table and took her hand, tugging her hard into me and kissing her. Her hand snaked around my neck while both of mine dropped down onto her ass. I kneaded her round curves, my tongue plunging insistently into her mouth. My body came alive. Tingles raced all over my skin. My cock throbbed for her. She knew it, too. She grinned against my mouth and hummed appreciatively. Her other hand reached between us and found my erection, stroking me through my clothes. Shit. We weren’t going to make it upstairs; I needed her now. Right now. I felt reckless and lightheaded, and it was making me behave in a way that wasn’t normal for me. I had somehow allowed her to take control and I couldn’t have that. My house, my life, my rules. Making a snap decision, I changed direction and almost carried her toward the guest room. Without breaking our kiss, I unbuttoned my shirt and removed my tie. Shrugging them off, I wrenched myself away long enough to pull her shirt over her head, then pulled her back against me. My tongue pressed into her mouth, stroking, rubbing, exploring.

I couldn’t be anything other than a romantic at heart — it’s my nature, it’s who I am. But this isn’t a typical story of traditional love. It isn’t a fairy tale. No happily ever after neatly tied up with a shiny bow. It’s a memoir of the reality left behind in the wake of grief — the desolation, the resurrection, and final culmination life offers to the fallen.

This is a journey through love…the love of self, love of a friend, and sometimes love is ugly, messy —destructive.

My name is Bastian Thames…and this is my story.

CHIMERA – Copyright © Stephie Walls 2016

Chapter One

When Sylvie died, it left a hole in my being that seemed prodigious. I adorn my face with the plastic appearance people anticipate from me, but internally, I weep. Continuing through the monotonous motion of my daily life, I increasingly find myself lost in what my friends—well, those who remain—refer to as a fictional world: novels, authors, artists, musicians, and the illusion of relationships on social media. The more time I spend on Facebook, the more entrenched I become in the fiction that exists on the screen. I believe these “friends” are truly concerned for me; they’re what relationships are in reality. Sadly, these seem to be the only things keeping me hanging on, but the thread threatens to break daily, frayed from top to bottom. The tightly woven fabric that was once my life has deteriorated beyond recognition.

That’s the crux of my juxtaposition. My life had value, it had meaning. It was everything I had ever imagined it could be. But without Sylvie, black clouds roll through my mind, hindering my ability to think, eliminating productivity, and stifling my creativity. My art is as dead as I am. But online…online I can be anything I want to be, whatever version of myself I decide to show to the world. I don’t have to be the pathetic artist who lost his muse. I don’t have to be the sweet, sensitive man Sylvie loved. I don’t know whom I want to reinvent myself as, but the idea of being whatever still exists in my soul doesn’t appeal to me. My craft has become recreating my persona, anything to escape the pain, the desolation, and the solitude. Surely there’s art in recreating an identity.

Most days, I find it difficult to even get out of bed. The colder it gets outside, the shorter the days are, the deeper I sink—sometimes only escaping the protection of my covers to take a piss or get something to eat or drink. Although frequently, I let those things go in favor of marinating in my misery. My laptop calls to me from my nightstand when the loneliness becomes too much to bear, the darkness too black to see through.

That recognizable blue-and-white screen brings me comfort, the newsfeed seemingly a link to real conversation, touching base with the people I’ve known for years—but it always introduces the possibility of newcomers. The “friend recommendation” is the online equivalent to a friend introducing you to someone new; at least it is in my mind. I always check out the recommendations. They’re often other painters or singers that might have known Sylvie—or people I barely recognize from high school or college. But every once in a while, some totally random person surfaces with no tie to my past.

Those are the connections I find most interesting, most appealing.

They also seem to be the safest, having no knowledge of the person I once was, or how all that remains of me is a fragmented shell. I have made several “friends” this way, people I would say I’m close to—even though we’ve never met and likely never will. Herein lies my fictional world, the one my real friends don’t understand and believe to be emotionally damaging to me. I’m not processing my grief…blah, blah, blah. If I hear that shit one more time, I may scream.

As soon as I log in, the familiar recommendations bombard me as if the universe is playing some cruel joke. There she is, my Sylvie…only her name is Sera Martin. She’s a perfect duplicate with the same striking green eyes, long chestnut-colored hair, high cheekbones, and luscious, pouty lips.

I realize I haven’t inhaled or exhaled.

I gasp and hold my breath until my lungs burn. I haven’t seen her in years. The day she died, I came home and stripped our house of any reminder—every picture, every video, every stitch of clothing, anything she loved. It all had to leave. I couldn’t bear the weight of what the world took from me. I imagined if I discarded everything, she wouldn’t haunt me, and maybe, somehow, I would manage to learn to live again if reminders of her didn’t surround me.

Yet, her loss possesses me daily.

This girl. This Sera. Could this be Mother Nature returning my Sylvie to me in a strange twist of fate? The notion there’s a doppelganger roaming the world has always been a thought I believe in. It’s possible after years of suffering, dying inside, barely hanging on, that my savior has come. Without hesitation, I click “add friend.”

Sera responds to my request with a private message.

Sera: Wow! Are you really Bastian Thames?

Me: Yes. Have we met before?

Sera: Once, but I doubt you’d remember. It was at a gallery down on the West End where your work was being featured a couple years ago. Is this the real Bastian? Not some lurker claiming to be the famous artist?

Me: Far cry from famous, but yes, one and the same. Are you certain we met that night? I remember the opening and can assure you I would have remembered you.

Sera: Yes, you were with your wife. She’s quite lovely. I’m not sure which was more beautiful, her or the nudes you had in the collection. That showing was the talk of the art community for months around here.

Me: That was the last opening I did. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Sera: Are you not painting anymore? I hate to admit that I lost track of your work when I went off to college but for years, I was a huge fan.

Me: Life happened. I haven’t painted in some time.

Sera: I can’t imagine you quit painting. Surely you just quit putting them out for the public.

Me: No. I haven’t so much as held a brush in five years.

Sera: That’s a shame. Hey look, Bastian, I have to run out but I accepted your request. I hope maybe we can talk some later. Maybe you’ll let me pick your brain about a project I’m working on?

Me: Certainly. I hope to hear from you soon.

Sera: Bye

Me: Later

My mind races with possibilities. I immediately go to her profile to see what information I can garner on her before our next conversation—assuming one comes. Jesus, she’s twenty-five, went to the Rhode Island School of Design, graduated with her Masters in Fine Arts, and holy hell, she’s a sculptor. If these pictures are of her work, then she has phenomenal talent. Scouring her profile provides only surface-level information. There’s almost nothing personal. The pictures all seem to be with other artists or at galleries or in a studio. Moving to her wall, I find tons of posts by other local artists, memes about artwork, jokes…the proverbial Facebook bullshit.

I almost quit scrolling when I see a post that grabs my attention. There’s a picture of two beautiful women, scantily clad, one bent over, the other yielding a paddle, and the words, “Someone’s been a bad girl.” Jesus Christ. There are one hundred forty-seven comments and two hundred fifty-three likes on the thread posted by a Maria Martin.

I click on Maria’s name first, assuming it will be a sister or cousin, not expecting it to be her mother. Holy shit, whose mother posts this kind of profanity on their daughter’s Facebook wall? Making my way back to the thread, I find myself enthralled by the dialogue.

It’s cheeky and playful but talk about insight. This one picture, one conversation, tells me scads about who she is personally, not about her work, but seemingly what she enjoys—intimately. Reading her responses to the comments ignites a fire in an area of my anatomy I thought had died with Sylvie. As my cock starts to twitch, that old, familiar heat seeps through my crotch.

I stop myself, realizing I’m staring at dialogue—about a woman who could be my dead wife’s twin—between people I don’t know. It’s morbid, really. Backing out of the comments and Sera’s profile, then I set the computer aside. I don’t close the laptop for fear of missing a message from her. Lying back, I stare at the all-too-familiar ceiling. I know every blemish on the drywall with aching familiarity. There have been hours of loneliness and isolation. The depth of pain is so fathomless, I often wonder how I made it to the next day without feeling the cold steel in my hand, without pulling the trigger.

I’ve lived all over the country but have made Greenville, South Carolina my home for the last 20 of my 37 years. I have a serious addiction to anything Coach and would live on Starbucks if I could get away with it. If you follow me on Facebook you’ll also find that I’m slightly enamored with Charlie Hunnam. I’m an avid reader (literary whore to be more precise) averaging around 300 novels a year. I have a penchant for great love stories, sensual poetry and am a romantic at heart.

I currently work full-time in the Greenville area and fill my “extra” time with writing contemporary romance novels with a hint of erotica. I couldn’t do it without the support of my family and friends who push me to keep going when I don’t have the confidence or patience.

Music was was part of my DNA, pumping hard through my veins, resonating deep within my bones. Not surprising, considering my dad was a global rock star and my mom had the voice of a fallen angel.

With my twin sister by my side in our indie-rock duo, Singed Wings, we were ready to finally see our name in lights when we opened for the hottest act to sell out stadiums – Jobu’s Rum Summer Reunion Tour.

The life I’d always wanted was finally within my reach. All I had left to do was finish out my last semester of high school.

But there was one problem: Ms. Sloan, the new art history teacher.

The same Ms. Sloan I’d met as Belle, the sexy little pixie who’d captivated me at a New Year’s Eve concert last year.

The same Ms. Sloan who’d owned nearly every one of my thoughts since that night.

The same Ms. Sloan whose class I was in danger of failing.

With my dream gig dangling just on the other side of that cap and gown, all of my focus should’ve been on my school work and improving my music as I prepared for my big shot to rock the world…

But I never expected her to rock mine first… and to change everything.

From the New York Times bestselling authors of Stuck-Up Suit and Cocky Bastard, comes a sexy new standalone novel.
Money or love? Which would you choose?
You probably just answered the question in your head thinking it’s an easy decision.
For me, it’s not. Did I mention it’s a lot of money? A hell of a lot.
I needed to go far away to think it through.
As I embarked on an impulsive trip, I hit a detour when I met sexy Carter in the airport lounge. We struck up a heated conversation.
Then, he left.
I thought I’d never see him again.
But fate had other plans.
Surprise! He was the pilot of my flight.
The bigger surprise was the adventure that followed after the plane landed.
Carter was dangerous and always on the move.
Even though our connection was magnetic, I knew it was only temporary.
He would give me tickets, and I would follow him around the world to exotic places.
A bevvy of flight attendant exes and rumors about Carter’s reputation were never far behind.
I didn’t know what to believe.
But I was addicted. Nothing else mattered anymore. And I was going to get hurt. Because a part of me wanted to be the one to finally ground the playboy pilot.
At the very least, he was taking me on a thrilling ride.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Excerpt

BLACK Copyright 2016 by Aria Cole

“You’re only twenty-one?” I ran a palm through my hair, thinking how I’d already had my dick between her legs, tasted her on my tongue. Jesus, she’s just out of high school. “How can you be so calm? Jesus, I nearly fucked you on my desk. Why didn’t you tell me you were only twenty-one?”

“It won’t make it any less true the more times you say it.” Her eyes flashed. “And we’re not that far apart.” She shrugged, then popped a bite into her mouth.

“Not that far? Ten years seems pretty far to me,” I bit, never feeling so goddamn old as I did sitting next to her in all her pretty, youthful glory. Jesus, she was beautiful. Why was she even here with me? The angry bastard with the nasty scar? I didn’t deserve her.

“Hey, chill out.” She plucked a bite from the plate and held it out for me. I snagged it between my teeth and chewed, never breaking eye contact. Her eyes glistened with amusement as she watched me, her full lips tipped in a Cheshire grin.

“Fine. But maybe don’t tell anyone your age for now,” I ground through my teeth before tightening my palm at her thigh again.

A soft chuckle fell from her lips. “Who would I tell? You’re my only friend.” Her palm covered mine as she threaded her fingers through mine. “What’s with the hands on me all the time thing, anyway?” Elle uttered just as she took another sip of her beer bottle. A girl who drank beer, the walking embodiment of a man’s dream come true. She was so cool, calm, and collected, I could certainly take a play or two from her book.

“Let’s them know you’re mine,” I ground, still uncomfortable with the fact that she was so much younger than me.

“Yours?” She almost spit out her beer with her chuckle. “That’s a little soon, don’t you think?”

“Not when you know,” I answered simply. The silence fell and I knew her mind was probably on fire with thoughts again. “Listen, I don’t want anyone else thinking they have a chance with you. This shows them not to fuck with my property.” I squeezed at her thigh, thinking I’d explained myself sufficiently enough.

“Your property?” Elle hummed as she pushed her half-eaten plate of food away before downing the rest of her bottle. “Your property?”

Oh shit.

“Elle!” I hollered, my thick thighs pushing the table across noisy tile when I stood hastily. “Elle!” I took long strides out the door, feeling at my neck the burn of judgment from everyone in that small place. Fuck this. This was why I didn’t go out in public.

“Goddamn it, slow down!” I boomed down the sidewalk where I saw her clutching her purse and leveling me with a glare. Jesus Christ, this woman was going to be the death of me. “Don’t run from me like that again, hear me?” I cupped her elbow and pressed her body against the cool brick of the building. “You are mine.” I ran my nose up the curve of her neck and nipped at her soft earlobe. “Even if you don’t know it yet, I can feel it,” I grit and thrust my hands into her mass of wild waves, pulling her head to mine and fucking her with my tongue. She returned the gesture, but with more ferocity than she’d ever shown before. I yanked at both of her thighs and pulled her limbs around my waist, angling her against the wall, my cock nestled right between her legs, right where he liked being.

“I’m not yours,” she uttered in protest as she nibbled at my bottom lip.

“The fuck you aren’t.” I gripped at one thigh, my other hand trailing between us to find the slick skin under her skirt and beneath her panties. “And this.” I pulled my thumb through the silky hot flame of her pussy and brought it up to my mouth, letting her arousal glisten across my full lips. “Proves you’re a liar.” I sucked her sweet honeysuckle musk off my thumb, then pulled her lips to mine again, crushing her with bruising force as I tasted her, desperate for more. Always desperate for more when it came to sweet Elle.

From New York Times Best-Selling Author K. Bromberg comes an unforgettable series about lust, love, redemption, and healing…

Our paths should never have crossed.

Colton Donavan was arrogant, exuded that bad boy vibe, and embodied everything I never wanted. And yet all it took was one night, one hallway, and one stolen kiss for me to know I hated him and desired him instantly.

My heart was healing. His soul was damaged. But with one bid, one little boy, and one carnival date, I couldn’t walk away and he wouldn’t let me in.

This is our story. Our fight. Our perfectly imperfect love.

What happens when the one person you never expected suddenly happens to be the one you’ll fight the hardest to keep?

Colton stole my heart. He wasn’t supposed to, and I sure as hell didn’t want him to, but he crashed into my life, ignited feelings within me that I thought had died forever, and fueled a passion that I never knew could exist.

Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet and into my life. Now I don’t think I’ll ever be the same. She’s seen glimpses of the darkness within me, and yet she’s still here. Still fighting for me. She is without a doubt the saint, and I am most definitely the sinner.

How is it the one thing neither of us wanted—neither of us anticipated that fateful night—has us fighting so hard to keep?

He steals my breath, stops my heart, and brings me back to life again all in a split second of time. But how can I love a man who won’t let me in? Who continually pushes me away to prevent me from seeing the damaged secrets in his past? My heart has fallen, but patience and forgiveness can only go so far.

How can I desire a woman who unnerves me, defies me, and forces me to see that in the deep, black abyss of my soul there’s someone worthy of her love? A place and person I swore I’d never be again. Her selfless heart and sexy body deserve so much more than I’ll ever be capable of giving her. I know I can’t be what she needs, so why can’t I just let her go?

We are driven by need and fueled with desire, but is that enough for us to crash into love?

When life crashes down around us, how hard are we willing to fight for the one thing we can’t live without, each other?

Life is full of moments.

Big moments.

Little moments.

And none of them are inconsequential.

Every single moment prepares you for that one instance that defines your life. You must overcome all your fears, confront the demons that chase you, and cleanse the poison that clings to your soul or you risk the chance of losing everything.

Mine started the minute Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet. She made me feel. Made me whole when all I thought I could ever be was incomplete. Became the lifeline I never knew I needed. Hell yes, she’s worth the fight…but how do you fight for someone you know you don’t deserve?

Love is full of ups and downs.

Heart stopping highs.

Soul shattering lows.

And none of them are insignificant.

Love is a racecourse of unexpected twists and turns that must be negotiated. You have to break down walls, learn to trust, and heal from your past in order to win. But sometimes it’s the expected that’s the hardest to hold on to.

Colton has healed and completed me, stolen my heart, and made me realize our love’s not predictable nor perfect—it’s bent. And bent’s okay. But when outside factors put our relationship to the test, what lengths will I have to go to prove to him that he’s worth the fight?

Whoever said love is patient and love is kind, never met the two of us. We know our love is worth it—have acknowledged that we were meant to be—but when our pasts crash into our future, will the repercussions make us stronger or break us apart?

This novella is for the devoted readers of the Driven series. It is recommended that this companion be read after Driven, Fueled, and Crashed.

About the Author:

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.

She’s a mixture of most of her female characters: sassy, intelligent, stubborn, reserved, outgoing, driven, emotional, strong, and wears her heart on her sleeve. All of which she displays daily with her husband and three children where they live in Southern California.

On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced (releasing 1/11/16)), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat (releasing 11/3/15), and a short story titled UnRaveled.
